Thank you for visiting our farm, and your interest in Bear Bayou Quail Farm. This is just a little history about our farm. We're small but growing, we pride ourselfs on quality. We have tried just about every incubator and hatcher made, but have settled down with a Humidaire 200 barrel type incubator and an old Buckeye hatcher. All the new fancy ones are tempting but mine work so well, why change. Down here on the Gulf Coast the heat and humidity is so high we had to build an air conditioned room to hatch and store eggs. It's a trade off "heat" here or "ice and snow" elsewhere. I have built a Dark Room to grow off my birds. It really works great. Now let me brag like most Texans do. We have some of the biggest Bobwhites and Coturnix Quail around! Gus started raising Game Birds in the 1960's. It became a family affair. We had a little of everything, Wild Turkeys, Pheasants, Chukars, Bobwhites, and small Pharaohs. Our 4 children was busy with Rabbits, Chickens and several Steer for FFA and 4-H projects. When they all left home Gus and I took off in our old Silver Streak travel trailer. Our plans were to follow the construction work and see the great USA. It was a lot of fun and we meet a lot of good friendly folks everywhere we stopped. We are retired now and spend most of our time with our 12 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. We always reserve time for our birds. It's alot of work but also fun. I think you will enjoy hatching and raising Quail. Thank you for taking time to read this and good luck.
Thank you, Gus and Barbara Rhodes
